Fort Lewis College is located in Southwest Colorado at the crossroads of the Rocky Mountains and the desert southwest. It is an area of diverse alpine, desert, and red-rock canyon environments offering world-class biking, kayaking, climbing, skiing, and hiking. At 6850 feet, the campus overlooks historic Durango and the rugged San Juan Mountains. Recently named one of Outside magazine's "Best Outside Towns" list and one of the "best adventure towns to live and play in" by National Geographic Adventure magazine, Durango is an active, thriving community with a small town atmosphere. The historic downtown offers a variety of shops, restaurants, galleries, and the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
