Program Description:

Spring Break Nicaragua- International Experiences in Agriculture

Looking for something more than a traditional beach trip for spring break? Do you have an interest in agriculture and traveling? Join us for this spring break study abroad experience in Nicaragua. It is perfect for first time travelers or seasoned veterans.  The group will tour various Nicaraguan commodities facilities- rice, tobacco, horse and bananas. Experts in the field will take students through the process of raising, processing, and making their products. The group will experience true Nicaraguan culture including the cuisine, arts and history. 

Students must have an interest in Agriculture, but participants do not have be Ag majors to participate. Space is limited. Sign up now to assure that you can be included. Priority will give to those who sign up early.

  • Airfare to Nicaragua

Spending money: You will want to have pocket money for incidentals, souvenirs and snacks, but all meals and ground transportation are covered in the program fee. 



Course Description
AEEE 2819 Agricultural Experiences in Nicaragua (3hr)
AEEE 7824 Independent Study in Agricultural & Extension Education (3hr)

In order to participate you must be enrolled in AGRI 2900/AEEE 7824 for the spring semester. If you sign up for the spring break trip and later drop the course, you may have to pay for part or all of the trip based on your withdrawal date.

Eligibility & Withdrawal

In order to be eligible for the program, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old by the first day of the program
  • Not be on disciplinary or scholastic probation
  • Be enrolled in either AGRI 2900/AEEE 7824 for the spring semester 2016
Application Deadline
January 23, 2017

Although the application deadline is January 23, you are advised to register early in order to secure a spot in the program. The program will fill on a first come, first served basis from those who meet the eligibility requirements. 

Because payments will be made to hotels and airlines on your behalf starting at the end of November, there is a penalty if you withdraw from the program after November 25, 2015, even if you do not go on the program. The amount that you will owe is based on the date on which you withdraw. The schedule of payments is:

Withdrawal after January 31, 2017 $500 non-refundable deposit will be paid
Withdrawal after February 15, 2017 Entire program fee will be paid

If you plan to withdraw, please contact Marissa Baham ( with Academic Programs Abroad. Please note that this request must be made in writing and that the date of withdrawal and is based on when APA receives your email or written withdrawal.
