Spring Break in Scotland 2018: Enlightenment, Globalization, and Contemporary Scotland

Looking for an international experience for Spring Break?  Join Dr. Gilley as he explores Scotland and specifically the Scottish Enlightenment. Learn about its role in the overall process of Globalization.  

Also explore how Scotland has sought to find its place in a new globalized world.  Visit multiple museums and cultural sites including Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish Parliament, several universities, Loch Ness and the National Museum of Transportation.

Space is limited. Sign up now to assure that you can be included. Priority will give to those who sign up early.

Spending money: You should plan for additional expenditures, including meals not covered by the program fee, snacks, souvenirs, and outings with friends.

Airfare to/from Scotland: you should not purchase a ticket until you are told to do so by your Program Director.  Once you are told to purchase a ticket, you should plan to arrive in Edinburgh on March 25 (which means you will need to fly out of the US March 24).  Your return flight home should be booked for April 2.

INTL 3994 Study Abroad in Europe


highland cowIn order to participate, you must have taken previously, or be currently enrolled in, INTL 3001 for the spring semester. If you sign up for the field trip and later drop INTL 3001, you may have to pay withdrawal fees.

Eligibility & Withdrawal

kiltsIn order to be eligible for the program, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old by the first day of the program
  • Have a cumulative gpa of 2.5 or higher
  • Not be on disciplinary or scholastic probation
  • Prior completion of INTL 3001 or be enrolled in INTL 3001 during spring 2018
Application Deadline
January 19, 2018


Although the application deadline is January 19, you are advised to register early in order to secure a spot in the program. The program will fill on a first come, first served basis from those who meet the eligibility requirements. 

Because payments will be made to hotels and airlines on your behalf starting in January, there is a penalty if you withdraw from the program after January 30, 2018, even if you do not go on the program.

The amount that you will owe is based on the date on which you withdraw. The schedule of payments is:

January 19, 2018 $500 is nonrefundable; student is obligated to pay for any non-refundable reservations the program has already paid, or is already contractually obligated to pay, on the student's behalf 


If you plan to withdraw, please contact studyabroad@lsu.edu. Please note that if this request must be made in writing and that the date of withdrawal is based on when APA receives your email or written withdrawal.
