Program Description:

University of Rhode IslandUniversity of Rhode Island

URI is located in the historic village of Kingston within the town of South Kingstown in the southern part of the "ocean state," just a few minutes from beautiful beaches the cities of Newport and Providence. Boston, 80 miles to the north, and New York, 160 miles to the south, are easily reached by bus, car or train. The local area is rich in colonial history and monuments. The spacious campus includes a quadrangle of old granite buildings surrounded by newer academic buildings, residence halls, and Greek-life houses.

Chartered in 1888, URI began as the state agricultural school, but today it has expanded to a major research organization. Divided into eight colleges offering over 80 undergraduate majors, students may take courses in the arts and sciences, business administration, engineering, library science, human science and services, nursing, pharmacy and resource development. Fields of particular interest and strength at URI include marine affairs, business and engineering.
