The University of Utah was founded in 1850 by pioneers and is now one of the major American research institutions. Over 180 classrooms and over 1200 well-equipped laboratories provide learning areas for traditional and innovative programs in more than 90 fields of study. Campus development has kept pace with the University's academic and research expansion. Many of the over 200 permanent buildings on campus have been built or remodeled in the last decade.
The University of Utah is situated on the bench of the Wasatch Mountains, at approximately 4,800 feet. There are seven world-class ski resorts within a 45-minute drive from campus.
The University of Utah is a dry campus (no alcohol), even for students over the age of 21.
